Annual Exhibition BPE 2013:

Our 2013 annual exhibition took place on Saturday 2nd of November at Oliver Bird hall, Solihull.

Our thanks and appreciation to Oliver Bird Hall for the use of their facilities, the selectors, entrants and everyone who made our second BPE exhibition such a great success.

"Thank you to our Judges for their time and patience during the judging weekend, we enjoyed their company.

Congratulations to those who had work accepted and award winners. If you were not successful this year, we wish you every success in future exhibitions.

On a personal note I would like to say thank you to the Yardley team, for their hard work, dedication and support in making this BPE Exhibition possible. Also thank you goes to our member’s partners, and relatives in helping with some of the tasks involved when putting on an Exhibition.

Once again thank you all."

Comments from our Selectors -

"First of all I would like to thank Christine and her team for all the hard work that was put into running the exhibition as with any BPE event levels are high and with Yardley running four print sections the work load is huge and stressful. The hospitalty on both days was fabulous, especially the jacket spuds on Saturday and the trifle on Sunday.

The Mono & Colour print sections produced a very special set of award winners and the Open & Nature Digital contained many images that would gain acceptances in salons worldwide. In fact in the nature digital, many of the top marked images that we could not give awards to will, I’m sure, gain awards elsewhere due to yardley’s standards being so high.

Pickinging all the award winners was a hard job to separate into medal and certificates with the overall Standard of the accepted images being high so any entrant that did not get into the Exhibition can Take heart in knowing how difficult it is get acceptances into a BPE event with only a small percentage being admitted.

Some of the ones that did not make if contained technical problems like over use of software producing when projected strange effects as over the edge sharpening and coloration issues, and in the prints a number of prints suffered with contrast and color cast etc.

However if was nice to prented with such a large variety of subject matter and hopefully we selected an interesting and balanced exhibition that yardley members can be very proud of."

John Cartlidge EFIAP/g, BPE4

"Judging the Yardley Exhibition was a pleasure and the hospitality was first class. The team are still new to BPEs and on a Learning cure but with the excellent leadership of Christine McGill they are certainly getting there.

The top ends of all sections were of a very high standard and we judges could easily have given more awards. Some prints suffered from the choice of paper used, particularly in the Nature section. Having said that there are plenty of good images to make an excellent Exhibition. It was an enjoyable weekend and I hope more images will be entered next time.

Numbers of entries in BPEs can be a little frightening but Yardley P.S can handle it. Well done."

Bob Dennis AFIAP, DPAGB, BPE3*

"It was an honour and a pleasure to be one of the selectors for this year’s Exhibition.

With so much choice in subject matter and the varied aspect of quality and personal eExpression in the print sections it was inevitable that the award winners showed a high level of technical competence, imagination and creativity.

The DPI selected images are of a high standard and varied subject matter and should provide an excellent Exhibition. Some images failed to live up to expectations with technical failings, over use of HDR, Lack of sharpness, over sharpening and colour casts.

Congratulations to all the award winners and I look forward to seeing you all at the Exhibition."

Graham Hodgkiss AFIAP, ARPS, MPAGB, APAGB
